| Transcript | Philda [Philadelphia?] May 23rd 1876 Mr John Hamilton Mr David Stewart and I take the privilege of asking you to do an act of justice in the following case the case stands thus that one Matthew Brooks of Scarvaghern [Scarvagherin?] died and was buried some time ago and left a will made a short time previous to his death the will as far as we know reads to this effect that after paying for the lot and fixtures and funeral expenses (1/3) one third of the money left was to go to neice [niece?] in this Country and the (2/3) Two Thirds Balance to go his Sister Rebbecca [Rebecca?] he appointed as his Exacuters [Executors?] Robt [Robert?] Clark and a man by the name of Thomas [Fare?] this Clark is the niece's husband so they got a hold of his books that is the Books of a Saving Fund where he kept the principal of his money and after due notice by the aforesaid Exacturers [Executors?] to the fund the money was paid over to them the Books where were counted up we beleive [believe?] showed over Four Thousand dollars Thomas [Fare?] the Smartest of the Twoo [Two?] took hold of the money and put it in his pocket and walked home with it then Clark not satisfied with this sued him before an Alderman he did not appear at the time but left one Thousand dollars with the Alderman for Clark which we beleive [believe?] he got us so he has said What we want you to do is to go and see this Rebecca Brooks other wise [otherwise?] Mrs Clark and we beleive [believe?] lives in Urney and tell her either to send some person empowered with the power of an attorney here to look after it or else if with less expence [expense?] to send the power of an attorney to some person else than the aforesaid Exacuters [Executors?] and without delay we look upon it as hard to be reached as without the power of an attorney there is no friend nor lover of juctice [justice?] can do anything [?] with address John Fife 312 Columbaview Av [Avenue?] Philada [Philadelphia?] U S america David Stewart 416 Cherry St [Street?] the reason why we write is a doubt a [uprigh---?] the reason is this that Thomas Fare was heard to say that the [?] one half of it would go home Clark to say that he would let as little as he could help go home and we belive [believe?] if not done in this way aforesaid you will look long for it when you go to see her first Ask her if she has heard anything about this matter the reason why we ask is because why Clark was asked if he had wrote and his reply was where is the use of writing it is time enough for one year anyhow |
