| Transcript | From: Catherine FitzGerald Sheehen, Abington [Massachusetts?]. 6 December 1858. To: her sister, Mary FitzGerald Cahill, Quebec, Canada. Addressed: No address, must have been contained in envelope, which is missing. Cream paper, with embossed corner mark showing a railroad train engine with letters "P & P" in a medallion. Paper folded, creased, tearing on creases, slight holes. Abington Dec 6 - 1858 My Dear Sister I take up my pen for to answer your letter of 22nd of Nov. which gave me the greatest pleasure to hear from you all But my Dear Sister we all feel very sorry for the death of your son and the trouble which my poor sister Judy is in for so long a time you need not think but I wrote to her I did 4 letters and got no answer I even went to John Aherns aunt last August and I wrote to him and when I got no answer I gave up all hopes of even hearing from you again. But I thought to get you advertised in the Boston Pilot after a little while but thank god I Love knowing you are alive and well as that leaves me husband and nieces in also I did not hear from home this 4 months. They were all well there My dear Sister, my Mother is dead since the 20 of last December May the lord have Mercy on her. She was buried only 11 Days when I heard of her death in the Paper called the Clonmell [Clonmel?] Chronicle which I get once in a while from my nephew Patrick O Donnell he is bound to Mr. [Tice?] of Clogheen to the deying [dyeing?] business and doing well also Nancy Eldest boy is bound a clerk to Mr. [Delyan?] in a dry good store. I should [like?] to know if Biddy is in Quebec or if you know any thing of her for her Daughter Mary Mahoney is here since a year ago last July and we could get no account of her mother ever since She is well. She has a good place her Pay is 6 Dolers [Dollars?] per month and also the [Ellen?] and Mary O Donnell they are doing work at the same wages. Mary O Donell intend [intends?] to send for a coller [collar?] of her own Knitting. She took the Premium at the last Lady's fair for her Kniting [knitting?]. My Dear Sister, we are doing Pretty Comfortable. We have our place payed for it is small but comfor [comfortable?]. it is worth between 7 or 8 hundred Dollers [Dollars?] but James is [James'?] Booss [boss?] died last May which threw him out of steady work which is a great loss to us I should like to know whether Judy's children are living out or what has she to support her The girls are sending home some money. I am writing I cannot send any at present for the last letter they are well and doing well Margaret has two bony [bonny?] young men one of them works with his father they are doing well She has 3 girls. Nancy has 2 boys and 3 girls Elen [Ellen?] intend [intends?] to send for her sister this Spring their Father is well he is living with Mr. Griffith of Ballyporeen as clerk and doing well My Dear Sister I will say no more but I hope you will answer this and let me know all particulars respecting my Sister Judy I do not know where Eliza is.
