| Transcript | [Front of Envelope] Mr. John James Smith Castledamph Eden Plumbridge Newtownstewart [Tyrone?] [Stamped] [Bagnellstown?] [Page 1] Wykeham Bagnalstown Co Carlow Nov.12.1914 Dear John Owing to a family affliction I find it impossible for me to collect the rents this year Mr Carson has consented to do this for me. Owing to the death of my elder sister in Kerry in June, we have to take charge of my sister who lived with her, whose mind is giving way and we are trying the experiment of having her to 2 live with us as long as we can, sooner than send her to strangers. Her temper is [very?] variable and I am the only one she minds [remembers?], so you will all understand how impossible it is for me to be away from home, as it is impossible to know what change this disease might take, but it is our duty to do what we can and as long as we can for the poor thing. I need not tell you it is a great disappointment to me 3 not to be able to come and see you all, perhaps I might be able to take a run up in summer if I can I will. Please tell the others I say how sorry I am not to be able to come. This dreadful war will make it [sic] sad Xmas for most people Yours truly Geog. [George?] Fitzmaurice |
