My dear Sir
I was only told last night an
acct [account?] of your [favor?] of the 17th in requesting me
to purhase (if I had not [the article?] myself)
Five Tons of Rice of a good sound quality
I have none of the [article?] - but [when?] the [Vessel?]
which you intend sending here arrives, I shall
purchase it on as good terms as I possibly
can [?] for a Charitable purpose - or
hand the order to some Confidential person
to do so - and when shipped shall forward
the acct [account?] as you direct to Bernd [Bernard?] McManus Esqr
at same time advising you -
