| Transcript | My Lord D---ll [Donegall?] London, Belfast, 4 May, 1773 I have only to transmit your Lordship the months [account?] balance 836:1:8 which shall be remitted the instant I can procure a bile [a bill?] - The linen trade seems to be totally at a stand - I have offered for bills as high as 9¬ which is 1:5:-more than your Lordships allowance to me & cannot get abile (sic) this cannot last long for if it does this Country must be ruined - The Imigration [immigration?] to America seems rather to increase than diminish- Some of the people might be spared but the money taken with them is what makes this Country wretched. The sums gone and going out is inconcievable - I don't know who the Irish puff (sic) for Lord Hillsborough is - but sure I am that his Estate and Lord Hartford's have as many if not more Imigrants [emigrants?] from them in proportion than their goes from your Lordship's- The matter however is become serious & requires my serious attention, to devise the means to put a stop to it for We are not only losing considerable sums of money, but a number of the princpal Manufacturers of Linen-I beg my duty to Lady Donegall [etc?] [etc?] G.O |
