Dear Sister Catherine
I am going to write you these few lines to
let you know we are all well and in good health at present
in hopes that these few lines will find you all in good
health. I received your letter dear Catherine. We are
all well. Me and old Mary is living together but we are
getting old. We have a very bad potatoe [potato?] crop
this country the [this?] year the [they?] are a most
[almost?] rotten.

Send my love to brother Mannis, wife and family and my
love to sister Nancy, husband and family and my love to
sister Hannah and when you write let us know how she is
getting along. My love to Jane, Gerey [Gerry?], husband
and family.

Dear Catherine write soon and let us know how you are getting
along.

So no more at present but I remain your loving brother to
death, Thomas Gallagher

When you write, direct in care of Mr Francis Arnold of
Ballybofey.


Notes: Both sides of this letter are in the same handwriting,
believed to be that of daughter Mary. The elder Mary, sister
to Thomas, was born in 1789 and died on 12 Nov 1878. Never
married.
Aunt Margery married to [?] and had three children : Hannah,
Ann, and Thomas. Ann is believed to have died after having
two young boys, who were raised by Margery.
