| Transcript | Barton [Barton-upon-Irwell?] Jan.y [January?] 21 1845 My Dear Joseph By this time I suppose you have heard from Portadown of the loss we have sustained and although we were looking forward to it and thought ourselves prepared for the event we were overwhelmed with sorrow and grief when it did take place we have however the consolation of knowing that our dear Mother was gradually preparing for the change that she - although a timid Christian was enabled by divine grace to meet the last enemy without dismay and especially towards the close of her life to rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory On the Sunday before her death I said to her "Well I can freely give you up knowing you have such a bright prospect beyond the grave " she replied " I feel truly thankful for that assurance" - All her intervals of ease were spent in praising God for his great goodness She died on Tuesday morning at 3 in an easy position just as if falling asleep only that she breathed deeply twice. We buried her in the Barton Wesleyan Chapel Yard on Tuesday Morning last she was carried thither by 6 of her relatives and everything as near as we could think was done as she would have approved had she been living- her countenance remained all that time unchanged calm placid and tranquil with a sweet smile as though she slept She was not even pale but there was the coldness of death nothing repulsive With kind love to Ann Jane and yourself I remain Yours truely N.
