You surley [surely?] wondered much when you heard of Aunt Eliza being dead. Your mother and father is at the shore now they went on tuesday last We have very bad weather here now it is raining every day if it does not soon clear up the haff [half?] of the hay will be lost the corn will soon be ripe [Page 2] here now I think we will be cutting about the end of next week if the weather permits The harvest is a good deal earlier there than it is with us I suppose you had some warm weather this summer we heard that the horses was dying with perfect heat It does not take such a great lot of money to go through college at all if one could get through in six months. I see you had a letter from William Hayes and one from John James Think he is getting very good pay unless the work is very hard if the [they?] were in Castledamph they would [Page 3] not have the half of it I suppose Sarah Anne is getting on well in College she should be well through now I am sure Willie John will not be long getting through anyway. Times is very bad here at present and they are getting worse every day Cattle is very low in price and for sheep they can hardly be got sold at all but there is a good price for young Pigs they are from 25s to 30/ [30s?] each Flax is a very bad crop here this year And there is a [union?] nearly every day I think your ones will be spreading some of theirs on Saturday [Page 4] I am sure you have forgot [forgotten?] about the girls you used to be talking to here You see so many nice ones over there do you fall out with them as often as you did with Alice Duncan There is great talk about Uncle James going to get married but I dont [don’t?] know whether it is true or not he has need enough for one anyway George Noble and the wife is away to America on Friday last. The Band got any amount of days this year and good ones too but They would not go to Barnscourt [Barons Court?] they kept good conduct on the 12th July only a few that was a little drunk I have no more to say at present but remain your cousin William Gilkison [Gilkinson?] [Note enclosed] [Page 1] There will be [sic] lot of young Orange men for the next 12th Alex Duncan Tommy McFarland John McKnight Tommy Huston [Houston?] Willie Knox and your William has got the first ride on the [buck?] on Friday night [Page 2] Please write soon I thought you had forgot to write the last time [altogether?] |
