Dear Cousin
In answer to your
letter which I received on the
23 inst I was glad to [sic]
from you again we are all well
here at present we had a very
nice day on the Twelfth and at
Barnscourt [Baronscourt?] too
The band is pretty good now only
it has lost Alex and Nox [Knox?]
but we can manage very well without
them James Barker is beating the
big drum since they left and
he is far better than Alex

[Page 2]
They told a lot of lying
stories about your ones but
I will not mind telling them
now you will likely hear them
before you get this letter
I am sure you have not forgot
the kind of them yet If
you go to the Worlds Fair
you will see a great many
wonders there but I think
a Bridge accross [across?] the
big Brae would be as big a wonder
to the people here The weather
is very cold and wet here
now it is not a good time
for digging the potatoes

[Page 3]
we did not commence yet but
it will not be long now
We are going to have a few
horses this afternoon drawing
to [sic] turf but I am afraid
we will not get a good day Uncle
James is doing very well now
I think he is doing better
than when the wife was living
John is still with Uncle John
but I think he will not stay
much longer with him he has
not got any pay from him
yet so he must either give him
some or he will not stay longer
than the new year

[Page 4]
John and Tommy has [sic] left
off courting Alice They have not
been in it this month or more and
the rest has [sic] lost all their
boys too all on account of their
own bad tongue I have only 5 sheep
now I sold my lambs to Uncle James
they are gitting [getting?] a
little Dearer now than they were
There is very little fun here now
and no dancing at all I did not get
the address you wanted but I will write
next week and send them if I can
have you any mind [intention?] to
come home soon but I know that
these [those?] nice girls thats
over there will not let you away
I will give you more news next week
no more at present But remains [remain?]
yours [your?] c [cousin?]

Willie Gilkison [Gilkinson?]
write soon
