Dear Cousin
In answer to
your letter which I received
a few weeks ago I was glad
to hear of you being well and
getting back safe from the worlds
fair [World’s Fair] I suppose
you saw a great
deal while you were there it must
have taken a great lot of money
to put up such large buildings
I think they will not have
much profit when all is done
you are apt to have heard about

[Page 2]

Willie [William?] Ballantine and James
Reid boxing on the Plum [Plumbridge?]
fair night they were at the Bench
and were fined in 10/0 [10s} each
We have very nice weather
here at present there is some
frost but no snow as yet it
is a good time for the sheep
we have them all on Uncle
James’s hill now your ones has
all the old sheep on it and
the lambs at home there is [sic]
a good many of them [tipped?]
now I think we will keep them
on it all winter if the snow
does not be too heavy

to day [today?] we have a litter of
young pigs so I can hardly
get writing two lines at once
I hope you had a good halloweve
[Halloween?] it was a very poor one

a situation has Sarah Anne
got into I have not got the
addresses you wanted yet I asked
one of the boys about them and
he said he would sent [send?] them
over to me but they did not come
yet it is a shame for me to
not have written sooner but
you must excuse me for my
carelessness we are all well here
