SOUTH WOODSLEE AU [3?] 97 ONT Castledamph July 22nd 97 Dear Cousin In answer to your letter which I received a few weeks ago was glad to hear from you again I suppose you have your examination over you by this time if so I hope you have got through allright [alright?] Willie John Duncan is at home now he arrived a few days before the twelfth he look [looks?] very thin he is going to stop about a couple of months James Joe happend [happened?] with a dreadful accident he was drowned on the 16 inst he was bathing with another little boy and neither of them could swim he did not (sic) that the water was so deep and went in too far when he went down the other little fellow ran for help but it was fifteen minutes before it came and that was too late he had to be taken out with a net and the place where he was found was about 20 feet deep it was a very hard trial on his mother and on them all it will also spoil Willie John's visit. Well we have got the twelfth over once more and we had a splendid day too There was an immense crowd of people I cannot say how many bands was (sic) int [in it?] but there was quite a lot We got home in good time and without any trouble as they all kept steady so that was not so bad we had only twelve fluters this year as there was (sic) some of them did not play but we done very well without them We are all well here at Present and we have plenty of work too the weather is very warm here thise [these?] last two weeks and it was very much needed the turf is all dry now and most of them stacked The crops in general look very bad this year there is no new potatoes dug around here yet we got all the road money ths [this?] time we have quite a lot of gravel to take out yet but if the weather keeps good we will get it all right [alright?] yet I hope you have got along will [well?] at your examination I have no more to say at pres.
