My Dear kind friend on New Year's eve
I recd [received?] your welcome letter with enclosed kind
wishes of the season, accept the same in return
From my heart I wish you many happy new years -
Your account of my sister is very cheering and pleasant.
I trust the remainder of her life will be marked with
grace & perseverance to the end.
I thank you very much for the information regarding her
remittance I did not do the business and know nothing
about the relative value of the interest Mr Bean does the
business and the amount of interest on her 2500$ 7pc is
175$ which he charges me with for her remittances. I will
make the suggestion as coming from myself to send the full
amount &c.
Let me thank you again for the information, it was very
kind of you to draw my attention to it.
I was pleased to see in a paper called the "New York Sun"
a paragraph making honourable mention of your Nephew Harper
Campbell of Slygo [Sligo?] being so kind and benevolent to
his tenants & forgiving them rents these hard times - I wish
him every good and happy enjoyment with his family.
I have not heard anything of your Uncle James' family
since Miss Longstreet last saw you, shall always be glad
to hear of their welfare.
I presume your family are still with you two daughters &
a son ? and long may you enjoy peace & tranquillity with them
is my sincere wish
Respectfully & Truly yours
G. O. Giltenan

P.S.
I trouble you with the enclosed as I cannot make out the
man's name she bid me address to.
You can forward at your own convenience.
