Transcript | From: J. [James?] Reford. To: His Aunt Matilda [Reford?], [Antrim?], [Country Antrim?], [Ireland?] 184 Midland Avenue. Bloomfield, N.J. [New Jersey?], [U.S.A.?]. May 30 1897 Dear Aunt Matilda, Your letter of April 2 was duly received and would have been answered sooner, but for the reasons I have been kept over busy and have not fully recovered from my sickness. I keep very weak especially so in my lower limbs. I soon tire if on my feet for any length of time, and having been so hard pressed with extra work, in the shipping being so heavy, in view of the change in the Tariff, has done much to keep me back. Was pleased to hear that the Photos arrived all right [alright?]. I wish you could meet my wife I know you would be good friends. As regards my own. I had grown a beard and was about a stone and a half heavier than when you saw me. (We Yankies [Yankees?] would say about 20 pounds. but Father kept to the old form of a stone) which makes the change in looks. Two years this morning I saw Ireland, and slept in Belfast. If I could get away would like to make the trip again. Sorry to hear you were not feeling well but hope you are by this time in your usual good health. Thanks for the clippings sent me. I havn't [haven't?] seen him since I wrote you. I have been trying to get a picture of the house Father built and where he and Mother died but have not as yet got a good one. We hope too [to?] before long. Our weather keeps cool. [Eunice?] and the children join in love. Your afft [affectionate?] nephew. Js [James?] Banks Reford |
