"Dear Sir & Brother"
I take the pleasure of
writing you these few lines
to inform you that I have
instructed Bro [Brother?]
James McCallam Secty
[Secretary?] of morning star LOL
[Loyal Orange Lodge?] No 161
Coatbridge to write for my
lines perhaps you will

have Bro [Brother?] J McCallam's
letter before this time relly
[really?] I did not think he
wood [would?] write so soon
So I hope you will excuse me for
not writing to you before
this time as I promised to
do so the last time you & I
was [sic] talking I may say I never
had time this Lodge which
Intend [sic] Joining as far

are very strick [strict?] the
[they?] have got the Rev Mr Winters
for Chapplin [Chaplin?] So you may
guess the [they?] are pretty
strick [strict?] So I thought I
wood [would?] prefere [prefer?]
Joining this Lodge in preference
to any other one

them the first opportunity

like you to write to me and let
me know what is against them as
I think surely I must be in dept
