Dear Father & Mother
I arrived
here yesterday a long journey
I am greatly fatigued
after the long ride I think
I will not commence the
baking as I would not be
able to stand it at all
& have not good health
in this country since
I came I like the country
very well but it does not
like me. I am about twenty
pound failed since I have
come here the times is very
bad at present now
Dan says he would not
advise me to stay here
Dan is very kindly
he says that if I would
commence to work and
not to be stand it & loose [lose?]
my health for by so I think
I will not say very much
about what time I will go
but I will write after I got a letter
from Mary she told me
that if I would go Dan would
lend me the money and you
could send it, it is
very hard to ask it from you
Eddie has his wages pulled
down from 12$ to 9$ it takes
6 of that to board & washing
Mary & Kate lifted 40$ out
of the bank after there could
be nothing to do
So if nothing comes up
between this & Saturday week
I think I'll have to
start as I will have to
for while & stop here I
suppose.
I will not say
much more at this time,
some future day.
I remain your
affectionate son
John Hanlon.
