Smyth " Gov.[Governor] of the Mint " New Orleans United States Letter: Toronto Dec.10th 1892 67 Bleecher St My Dear Nephew Its 43 years since you and I parted and many changes has taken place in that time but never for one day have I forgotten you as you sat with your coz [cousin?] playing. Now we are both on the down grade of life and whilst the world has been good to you it has dealt harshly with me. My husband died 15 years ago and as he was something like your dear father, live and enjoy life, he left little. My request for I am truly in need for his family I gave them as good an education as I could afford and the boys then struck out for themselves. I have two girls home, one is studying for a book keeper and the other shorthand and type writting [writing?]. Now Andrew I have no claim on you more than I am your Aunt old and poor and I ask you to help me a little to get through the winter and I hope you would refuse me for believe me I never thought to beg. I have worked hard to get a living. Please, dont refuse. You know I suppose that I got nothing from Ardcame nor by Thomas and Andrew. Indeed they quit writting [writing?] to me after their death and its only now and then that I hear anything about home and then by some person coming from there. I hope you will let me hear from you are you married and how is your brother John please give him my love and accept the same and may God bless you all in the sincere prayer of your Aunt Fannie Haslett |
