Dear Mr Smyth
I hope you will excuse me for
not writing to you before now
Well I got my Leave to go over
to spend the Christmas with
you
Again but the Weather is so bad
here at Present that we have
left it off till [until?] some other
time days as dark as the night
fog rain & frost Hoping you mrs
& family is [are?] well we are
all well here at present but
Tom says that as dark and as bad
as the weather is give me the
money and I will go by myself
