Dear William
I ought to have a Great Deal of news to Send you by this time, and Such as
would have been agreeable but from the Situation of the times I have but
Little that I can mention at present. I arived [arrived?] in New York the
8th of Novr [November?] 1811 and has had a tolerable Good Portion of
health I have not been confined to bed one day Since I Came in to amerrica
[America?] thanks be to the almighty for all his mercies, and I earnestly
hope these few Lines will find you and all my relations in good health I
have not received any Letters as yet and I have wrote twice One Letter dated
Novr [November?] 1811 and the other Aprl [April?] 1812 this is a good
Country but I Could wish to see some of my relations here the Crops were in
Generall [general?] Poore [poor?] this season provision Seems to rise Flax
Seed sells from Eight to 9 Dollars per hogshead wheat has been 18s per
bushell [bushel?] rye seven and Corn six shillings per bushell [bushel?]
beef 8d per lb I have not farmed any since I came in to this Country only a
few Days
Give my love to all enquiring friends and relations I add no more at present
but remains [remain?] your loving friend
