Friend Greer
Not knowing who lives on Rhone Hill
at present I direct to Greer if it be Thomas Greer
In this will remember Wm [William?] Hobson son of John Hobson then
4th mo [month?] 1819
living beside the meeting house at Grange - my object
is to hear something of my Parents if living I have
heard nothing for a long time. The last I heard was
by Robt [Robert?] McMakens son at New Orleans with John Greeres [Greer?]
I have sent thee 2 papers of and of useful & ornamental
trees No 1 is Pseudo acadia or Black Locust No 2 called
Catalpa cordifoli the timber is the most durable we
have here we use them for shade trees plant No 1 in the
winter that the seed may freeze a little No 2 in the spring
I can send thee any qty [quantity?] of seed of any we have here -
I have frequently wrote home but whatever is the reason
I can get no answer there was one came to Cincinatti [Cincinnati?] &
lost in the office - if this comes to Thomas Greer Senr [Senior?] or Jr
[Junior?] or any of the family I should be much gratified to have
a few lines or from any of my fathers family to know how
or where they are & whether living or dead & where Elizabeth
Ann & Joseph are & all the family of Thos [Thomas?] Greer
& his family I heard John was dead & how his son Joseph
is & Hannah & the rest also John Shaws family Dree Hill
after many years rambling from N [North?] to S [South?] of the United States I am now living on the Bank of the Ohio 20 mile[s?] above the
City of Cincinatti [Cincinnati?] in New Richmond Clermont County & State
of Ohio I cannot say Fortune frown'd on me nor regret my changes
I have been Honer'd [Honoured?] as far as I have desired being several
years an acting Justice of the peace Clerk of the township & as post
master the last I have resign'd, please shew [show?] this to Joseph
Greer or my Bother Joseph I will expect about 3 sheets from either of
them also to my dear parents if living - please to do me the above
favor [favour?] I shall always remember Thos [Thomas?] Greer & still remain
thy friend

going to England tomorrow
I expect thee has seen the papers that our
expresident Andrew Jackson is dead we
had a very strong political contest for his
election I have seen & conversed with him
often he was a stern man in his duty
if I can get any answer to this I can
give thee a long history of travel having
been in nearly all the 26 States we have
a hard political question on Slavery
the most cruel & detestable principle that
can exist in any Government I have seen
the practical principles of it in all its
disgusting forms in the Slave States I can
see them in Kentucky from my door every day
if I knew who to send to I can send a great
many papers on all the topics of the day
please to remember to any & all that knew
me & enquire respectfully thine
Wm [William?] Hobson
