introduction of V.F. [Vere Foster ?]

New York Aug. 27th 1856.

Mr Vere Foster, the bearer of this
has been introduced to me under auspices highly honourable
to himself and to the cause to which he is engaged. That
cause is philanthropic and has a reference to the emigration
of poor persons from Europe, or, I might better say, from
Ireland to this country.
As he desires to consult Catholic clergymen and others
in the United States & Canada on this subject, I beg leave to
recommend him to the kind attention of such Catholic
clergymen as he may have occasion to call on.
