| Transcript | Stimson Block Jay E. Hunter Attorney at Law TELEPHONE MAIN 528 Los Angeles, Cal [California?] July 13, 1898. Post-Master, Town of Armagh, Couny Armagh, Ireland. Dear Sir : - A Mr. Wm. [William?] Beck, a saloon keeper at Randsburg, Kern County, California, died at the town of Santa Monica, in Los Angeles County, on July 2nd 1898. I enclose clipping from the Randsburg news-paper, showing that he has relatives "Hamiltonbawn" [Hamiltownsbawn?], County Armagh, Ireland. I see from a letter in his effects that he also has a sister by the name of Mrs. M. Johnston. The letter is dated Nov. 14th 1897, and appears to have been written from Macantrim, whatever that may mean. I enclose you envelope showing that it was mailed last Armagh on Nov. 16th or two days after it was written. British Vice-Consul Mortimer of Los Angeles says that there is no such place as "Hamiltonbawn" [Hamiltownsbawn?] in County Armagh, but that there is a town named Armagh in County armagh. It is suggested that I communicate directly with you and will ask that you mail the enclosed letter to Mrs. Johnston, in order that she may know of her brother's death, and also the proper steps to take to inherit Mr. Wm. [William?] Beck's estate, in conjunction with her two brothers. I would esteem it a great favour if you were to forward the enclosed letter, as [and?] also the enclosed envelope and clipping to her address.
