Mr James Smyth Douglass [Douglas?]

Dear Sir

I am an entire stranger but I am writing
to you as a near relative. I am your Aunt Rebecca's
oldest child but it is not possible that you
should know anything of me as your brother and sister
were very little children when I left Ireland a
little over sixty years ago.
Naturally you will say, "Why is she writing to me?"
It is this; I greatly desire to know about Mother's
people on both sides, (the Edwards and the Douglasses)
as far as you can find trace of them by looking in
the old family Bibles, if they are still in
existence, or in the old family records of the town.
If it is not too much trouble please find out
what Grandfather Edward's given name was and the
dates of birth marriage and death of his father and
grandfather.
I know not if you are still living but if not
perhaps one of your family will find out what
they can for me.
I remember the old place well. I lived at the
house of Uncle Douglass when a little girl and your
mother lived there. I attended school at the
Dumfeat school house. Ah me! those days are long
since past.
I have nothing to communicate that would interest
you, only I and my husband will have been married 56
years when the 8th of July comes. We have one son
and daughter and two grandchildren a boy and a girl.
Hoping you will find what I ask and will be much
obliged to you I close as your loving cousin
