Friend Annie
You will probably be
surprised to hear from me,
but surprises and disappointments
are both common to this
world and I presume you
are used to both by this time.
However that may be I will
explain my object in writing
and agree not to afflict
you with another letter without
your consent.
I think I know nearly what
your feelings were towards me
in the past, whether they have
changed or not I do not know
but I do know that mine
have towards you for I have
learned to appreciate sense
and sincerity better than
I used to, and so write
requesting, if you have no other
gentleman friend of whom
you think more highly, that
we correspond hereafter.
If this meets with your
approval please let me hear
from you.
Yours sincerely,
Caleb Jackson
