On board the Ship Shiffield [Sheffield?] Off Hollyhead
1 ock [o'clock?] Wednesday 14th Augt [August?]

My Dear Henry
We cleared out of
Liverpool on yesterday morning and
have had nearly a calm ever since
with the exception of the last three
hours during which time it has been
blowing quite rough, and the rest
of the party (although in every other
way well) are in bed and very
sea sick. you can say to Eliza Whitelaw
that Newcomon is doing very well
he does nothing contrary to our wishes.
I am very much pleased with this
ship she sails better than I expected
and I think we will have a good
passage. indeed I long very much to
be in New York as the monotonous
time we must have on board
will be chiefly employed in [torn]
and thinking of you all [indua?] [torn]
often find myself Engaged at the [torn]
latter and it only makes things [torn]
I hope you have not forgotten [your?]
promise of making Sophia ride out
with you every day and that she is
recovering her cold. also Wm [William?] McK [stained]
I trust he, is in a fair [way?] of [going?]
with kindest love to all friends and
Eliza [Shigag?] I am Yours ever affectionately
Jno [John?] Jackson
P.S.
The pilot is just going
with whom I send this
and therefore have time to
say no more
