| Transcript | From: Petrolia Jany [January?] 27th- 1889- My dear Uncle I have been several times on the point of writing to you - to wish you & your families a very happy year. I am grieved that you should have such a sad beginning of it - in the death of your dear little grandson - Please convey to Alexand[er?] & Alicia my love & kind sympathy in their bereavement - It is well with them when they can feel resigned to their Heavenly Father's will - I trust you may have a beautiful & happy birthday - & that health & strenth may be given you for many a birthday yet - I am thankful to say that all the families of our branch - are well & happy at this time - our three daughters are growing into young women very fast. two of Helen Noble's sons are grown up & each in a Bank. Kate's family have been scattered - Etta staying with Maggie Jones in Winnipeg - Mamie in Scotland - & Helen at school in Toronto. Max Dennisto[?] has established his law office in Peterboro' [Peterborough?]- & I have no doubt will build up a good business on the old foundation - - We have been having an unusually mild & open winter. the oldest inhabitant does does not remember such a springlike January - A heavy snow storm is now raging - so we shall likely have a taste of Arctic winter yet - people are afraid of an ice famine - we all depend on so much on ice in the summer - not only for cooling purposes - but for keeping perishable viands - no one can get on without an ice box or refrigerator in their cellar - Charles sends kind remembrances to you & all your circle - with kind love to Geraldine - George & our little friend Lydia I am dear Uncle your loving niece Annie E Jenkins Annie E.Jenkins- 27 Jany [January?] 1889. |
