A letter, dated 8th April 1923, to George Kells (1854 - 1929)
in Ireland from his eldest brother, Henry Kells (1853 - ?)
who at that time lived in Duffield, Alberta.

Alberta Province
Canada
Duffield April 8th 1923

Dear Brother,
I have been a long time in answering your last letter. I had several newspaper from which gave me much news. Well everywhere one may may (sic) go, one hears of the awful deeds done in Ireland they have ruined their
own Country. no worse people on Earth worse than the Turks or Africans.
Ballyconnell has been Raided it was awful Brutish what they did to Mr. Rian
[Ryan?] and McGrath. Well I saw all this trouble some years ago it was Shewed [shown?] me in a vision. Yes an awful time. I hope they did not meddle with our Brother Richard or any of the Kells. Well the weather is fine at present, and we are tolerable (sic) well, this is the British Empire on a large Scale & there is peace and Common sense and security. Well as regards fishing and hunting, to the North of me for over 2000 miles
down to the Arctic Shores there are all kinds of Trout laronge Salmon white fish and many other kinds in abundance and Canada Reindeer Called Caribou you Could go among them like tame Cattle, one could count them by acres some times one Could see Colums [columns?] 8 or 10 miles long and over 100 feet deep on the move at sertain [certain?] seasons & also Bear, Elk fox
Black Moose. 1000 miles of [from?] me there is a great Lake Called Great Slave Lake which is over 600 miles long and average 250 miles wide 3 or over 3 times the size of awl Ireland and I have been around Lake Superior, which is 30,000 square miles. I have been to other great Lakes and Rivers. The McKenzie River North of here is 1500 miles long and navigable with good fish. British Columbia west of me has a world of Resources.
Everything one could mention. There is a million square miles [----?] north me not settled only thinly by natives which are peaceable. Well you done well to get out of Galway. Write soon and let me know of our Brothers and of your well being.
Your affec. Brother and we all send kind regards to you all.
Your Brother
truly Henry Kells
