TranscriptPittsburgh, Nov. 17th, 1821
Dear Ellen,
I am nonplussed to know
what is best to do, whether to address
H. at St. L. [St. Louis?], or Springfield.
Mr. Drake omitted to sign
the Transfer & by advice of
Mr. Woods (Lawyer) I returned
the Bond for signature inclosed
in a letter addressed to
H. at Springfield. I hope this
is right but, as Mr. Woods
Was engaged in Court I could
not obtain an audience with him
till after my writing, & late on
Saturday, he told me to write
again & say, that, the Bond is
not saleable unless signed by both
you & Horace. this being done,
the conditions will all be complied with.
We can get no person to cash the
Bond as favorably as Mr Saml. [Samuel?]
McClean Jr. ([-?] per cent).
Mr Mc. will pay the amt [amount?] in
good funds of Pittsburgh, or
Pa. [Pennsylvania?] Banks, but will not give a
check on -- N.Y. [New York?] City, - Kramer
says he will give the check at
of 1 per cent. Query, shall
I accept this. We await the
return of the Bond, with
instruction, as well.
Afftely [affectionately?]
John Kelly.
