Transcript | Pittsburgh Novr 3d. 1862. Dear Mary. I rec. [received?] your mail yesterday containing no less than 4 letters if we count the P.S.es Still happy to know that the young as well as the old folk are all well. Old Mo. had been foreboding evil about her Package ever since she sent it, - till she heard of its receipt, & then it was, "thanks to the Good being for taking care of it." We have had two very busy wks [weeks?] & not done yet at House cleaning. Fan's Girl will leave her on Friday next, - & then - another breach. She is hard to please. Liz is not recovering her hearing & Tommy is unwell to-day. Apple-butter, & Soap-making will be the Programme for next wk [week?]. & then a rest. I hope. Mr McLain [McLean?] called twice to know if Mr Drake would accept his offer in cashing his Bond. I said we were expecting him here daily. & then he would know. Mr McLain [McLean?] gave me Miss Robinson's letter, & I thought it would be gratifying for you all to read what they suffered by [oln?] Indians, so, I addressed it to Ellen, & last wk [week?] I sent her a circular of the Penn St Female Seminary. I am glad to know that John & Phil still continue on the Farm, it will make a strong household, - but they managed ill in losing the Apples. I will tell you what I intend to do, when I get my Present from my Young Friends. I have resolved that when recd. [received?] I shall make E.M.C.& F a committee, to dispose of it as they in their Judgement may deem most for the comfort of all, & in such a manner as that I might have an opportunity of making Mary & Caroline better scholars, even yet, but the four Daughters are to be the Judges. old Mo. will have one vote, & she, "does not care so she does not. but she will be, beside Ellen." so votes she. Should the Governor think proper to give me the St Louis House for $200. & Supply our Wants. I will agree to it. Mother's chief concern seems to be, - How & when she shall be buried. This is Indian Summer, a delightful & pleasant day. good enough in all reason, for McClellan & Lee to fight. Mother, is glad to hear that Jas, [James?] is (as Horace says.) well and doing well, and advises him to get, married to a rich & a good Wife. We hope to see Horace here before I write again. John & Fan are very kind to us. I met Welmarth. & I told him of Caroline losing Anne's letter. he said write again. old Mrs Rohm has bought a place near Fan's. They are mutually glad Company all last week. our love to all hoping for a better future yet God bless all the family. best respects to Mr & Mrs [S?]. & all friends Afftely [Affectionately?] John Kelly.
