| Transcript | via new york The Rev A.J. Kirkpatrick The Rectory Craigs Co Antrim Ireland January 10, 1896. Government House, Toronto My dear Alexander I received your letter of 11th December by the hands of John Kennedy - a young man who had very vague notions of what position he wanted, or what qualifications were necessary. He did not know that he had to pass a civil service examination before obtaining a place in the Post Office Department - I had however a long chat with him and gave him some good advice, and told him what he must do if he wished to obtain any position in the Civil Service. I was glad to hear from you for I can say of my Irish Cousins what you say of your numerous Canadian cousins - we know very little about each other's movements I would that we could more frequently interchange visits but the business of life keeps us all very close to our work and gives but few opportunities for family re-unions or reviewing the associations of our youth. With every good wish for the New Year to you and yours and to George Stephen and his circle I am dear Alexander Yours very sincerely George A Kirkpatrick Rev A.J.
