| Transcript | Antrim, July, 5, 1855. My dear Mrs. Nettleton: Your father has permitted me to occupy this page. I embrace it to assure you of my unabated respect for yourself and my very earnest wish for your personal and domestic happiness. I was pressed to take a tour to the United States some time since, but could not then go. If ever I do get across the great ocean, you may expect me to pay you a visit. A few hundred miles are easily travelled when we have Heaven to keep us along over land and water. But should Providence so ordain, that I should never be in Canada West I shall not the less respect you and sincerely desire your welfare. I hope your two oldest are well. Alexander and Mary will soon be grown up. May the Lord God teach them, guide them and provide for them. "Train them up in the way in which they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it. Early training is very important, and has God's blessing with it. It is very important to give children as good an Education as circumstances will admit to prepare them for the duties of this life, but it is still more important to teach and impart those religious principles, that give stability to character and prepare us for a better and more enduring world. As for you, they, your husband, and your other children are concerned, I shall be always glad to know of your present welfare, but there are still higher objects, than mere earthly things and these I trust, none of you will forget for one moment. Remember "What are the benefits, which in this life flow from Justification, adoption and Sanctification "Peace of conscience, assurance of God's love, joy in the Holy Ghost. Be sure to seek for these yourself - you cannot seek in vain. Then will you feel a deep interest in impressing on the minds of your children, the necessity of seeking for them also. It is written "He that asketh receiveth, he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened". Praying my God to bless you, your husband, Alexander, Mary and your other children abundantly for time and Eternity, I am, very truly yours, Alexander Mackey. |
