My dear Jane,
We have written to yourself, to Bella and to Sarah McKeen twice,
since we had any letter from any of you.
You may judge, that after being so many months without hearing we
would necessarily have become very uneasy. We can therefore delay
no longer, but write now to beg that each of you will hasten to
write and relieve us from the suspense which your mother and I have
so painfully felt. You must be aware that in the absence of actual
information our minds are prone to suppose the worst. Write then as
soon as you receive this, and save us from the anxiety we have so
much endured.
I have reason to be thankful that my health continues good. Your
mother is much as usual everything considered. We have great reason
to be thankful to the Giver of every good and perfect gift for the
abundance of the mercies He has been pleased to bestow upon us.
Betty and Anne are both well and still at home with us. Thomas
Hunter and his family, Wm. McConnell and Langford and their families
are all well thank God.
The prices of farm produce have been so good these two or three
years that the country is in a much more prosperous state. We have
all had our share in these advantages but none to the extent of your
brother,William, whose industry the Most High has greatly blessed.
I may mention that Antrim is now lighted with Gas. It is a very
great improvement.
I had almost omitted to say that John McConnell, Margaret and
their family are well. Their son Arthur is in the United States. I
have nothing more to add but your mother and I send our blessing to
you everyone.
I am, ever your affectionate father
Arthur McConnell.
