| Transcript | February 18th 1889 Tamlaught, Tuesday Dear son James I embrace this favourable opportunity of writing to you these few lines to let you know that your friends are all well at present thanks be to god for his kindess to us but I am getting very weak and feeble I am scarce fit to move about on two sticks but I am thankfull to they [the?] almighty god for the length of days he has given me on this earth but my eysight [eyesight?] is nearly gone as well as my limbs Dear son you told me when you were over here that if I stood in need of a trifle of money to send you a few lines and you would send me a little and if it was ever so little it would be useful to me at present we have had a very wet summer all this season but crops done pretty well except the potatoes on wet ground and they are scarce worth a diging [digging?] and the turf all a total failure and turnips are of poor crop and markets is dearer than they formerly were and cattle never was so high as they are at present we have had a soft wet winter and I might say very little past as snow to the first of February and we have a pretty fair share of it since I have nothing more particular to mention at present but remain your loving father to death Patrick Alexander |
