| Transcript | Portadown 4th April 1853 My dear Joseph I now enclose you invoice of shipment of Pillow Case Linens [for?] "Pacific" Steamer [10 ct. z ?] We have had severe frost here which has prevented these goods from being finished 6 weeks ago and [sooner?] than allow them to lie over until another screw steamer sails for Philada [Philadelphia?] we have thought it better to send them by "Pacific". We have not insured these goods here as Robert Moore wrote you by last mail leaving it discretionary with you to do so. We consider these goods invoiced at a low figure as some of them have been sold as high as œ16 per yard for 5/4 and we think you ought to [sell?] us a larger figure than that. We have also learned from our Bleacher that these goods are at present in demand on your side the water and we think we ought to bring a speedy turn of the money in them. They are to our mind very likely finished and nicely ornamented. Should they prove a remunerative speculation we may be induced to send you an occasional shipment being guided by your advice as to the season when they may be required most. You will of course deduct the 2«% of service price this being the rate in all cases if I remember rightly and I had a good deal of experience in that line. The boxes marked [TNI?] are mine and those marked RNI Robert [Mai's] and you had better keep the sales separate. At one time you mentioned to Robb something about advances but we would not mind them unless they could be had without enhancing or forcing the sales in any one way and we would also like to know your terms were advances are made. We forward additional sample books by steamer and hope all will reach you safely. As soon as you have seen them let us know what they are likely to bring. Please keep a strict account of all changes and also let us know what difference there is between that and the charges by screw steamer to Philada [Philadelphia?].
