My Dear Joseph,
It is now so long since I ____ wrote you or received a letter
from you that I quite forget which is the debtor. A letter of
yours bearing date Feby [February] 10th is now before me but
whether answered or no I cannot tell. Until lately P McConnell
has not been able to attend to any business but I have applied
to him for the % of original Bond Instant Costs to which he says
will be shown by one of the claimants connected with your
getting possession; he named it but I cannot now say what it
was. I will however make an extracr of the part of your letter
connected with the affair. I delivered your note to Robb ___ and
he authorized me to say to you that he will take the property
__________________________ of two men, one to be appointed by
you and one by him, half the amount so valued to be appropriated
to settlement of Mr Macarius and his men [%?].Now I think this
a very fair proposition but perhaps you may think differently
and so I will say no now. Mr ____ was with my father one day
this week and wants to know what you and Robb would take in a
round sum and have done with the whole affair. As ___ how is up
I have no ___ today ___ at present ___ are all well.
Your affect [affectionate?] Cousin
Wm [William?] Montgomery
