| Transcript | Portadown 7th January 1854 Dear Joseph As [Wm?] is writing I enclose a line or two to enquire what you have done in the way of Sales. I am very anxious to turn those goods into cash as money is [every?] day becoming more valuable here if this loss is not great I would like to realize I wish you to send me an order on your uncle for the proceeds of the property of Tandragee which I will place to the Credit of old act [account?] I think it is as well to have it as it is undisturbed and just take out of it what you can I expect the matter will be trouble some in the end you will be surprised to hear that the Messrs [Cuppage?] have failed last week Liabilities 70,000 They offer 300 5/0 in the pound [&] they will I dare say be made Bankrupts I still have my good news from my Brothers in [Australia?] one of them is earning œ50 a month the other about œ20 per week Some [savings?] they took out with them paid 90 % it is likely to be a great country things are becoming very Gloomy here I [fear?] [we?] are approaching another œ47 - We have just [now?] a tremendous snow storm mail and trains are stoped [stopped?] for several days - The poor are suffering very severly just now Yours affly [affectionately?] Robt Moore |
