Dear Brother
I send this line to inform you that
I am in good health, as also all the rest of
our family; only our mother who for some
time past has been afflicted with a severe
headache, we recd. [received?] your letter dated the 3rd
of April last, and at the time we recd. [received?]
your letter we had sent away one by a
Mr. Taggart who had come home from
America, but he was not lift [left?] Ireland
for some time after yours came to hands
your Father thinks you might have
come home to see us before you had
changed your life, but since it has
happened otherwise we are all quite
happy and contented that you have
made such a prudent choice, and James
yourself into a Respectable family
whom we all know so well -
Dear Brother, I had some thoughts of
coming to you, but now:-
an account of mothers want of health
I am advised by her and Father to stop
at home till we see what will be the
end, and perhaps in process of time we
may all by the blessing of God meet
you in America, Aunt Jane is in a
poor state of health, Brother william is
something Better than formerly, uncle John
and all our other Relations are well
we have to inform you that uncle
Robt. [Robert?] white has sold Tullog [sic], and is in
Craigamoy, and Aunt is in a very poor
state of health - Brother Andrew [Watt?]
and sister Jenny and family are well
and send their love to you both, and
sister Jenny in particular is very well
pleased at you prudent choice of a
wife - please to send an answer &
let us know more fully what you
paid for your purchase of woodland
and how its to be paid, whether in sales
by installment [instalment?], or all together, and also
all the Circumstances both of the place
and also of the Bargain - - -
Give our Joint Loves to uncle John Dick
and aunt, also to Wm [William?] and Thomas Dick,
uncle Patricks family are all well
also William Brown and family
uncle William Owen and family
his son William went to South Carolina
to his Cousin Gladney [sic], with whom he
Continues to their, we are so hurried for
him as the Beaver is just going off
that we cant get Cousin Owens letter
or we would inform you all about it.
All you wish to know about our Country
let us understand it in your next letter &
I shall inform you of all, I conclude
with the joint prayers & Good wishes
