My dear Susan
I believe I have not written to you for some time
so shall honour you with a few lines now.
Well to begin all last week was the week of prayer & we had
meetings every night except Saturday & it was preparation
for communion as well. I know you will be pleased to hear
that Tom made a public profession yesterday and partook of
The Lord's Supper with us. We, Lytle & I felt very deeply
thankful to have him do so and Dr [Doctor?] Meloy made some
very touching remarks in regard to him. I do earnestly pray
that he may be kept faithful to the end amid all the
temptation of this large city. he seems to be beginning
right and we have God's promise that "He will keep all those
who put their trust in Him" Tom has also got an increase to
his pay. he handed me last Monday evg [evening?] $5 so he
feels encouraged to work. Florrie was ill for a week with
very sore throat. she is still feeling weak from it I never
saw her reduced before but she looks genteel enough now.
However I hope she will soon pick up again. I am feeling
better this week myself. We have a mild winter so far nice
dry frosty weather not much snow and no rain. you would
think that strange at home. it is colder to-day & the paper
predicts a "cold snap". I was over to see Mrs Anderson on
Friday afternoon she is quite well. Mr Anderson went to his
new position Saturday. he will be out of the city all the
time it is strange how little success he has had since he
came here. I hope he shall succeed this time he was in to
see us before leaving but somehow the family does not come
so near us in friendship as others whom we have only known
for a short time. we often wonder why it is so. Now how are
you all? Has Florrie left Miss Reids yet she & Jessie are
very bad correspondents. we had no letter from John since

we told you.
Did Annie's "fellow" (as they say here) come at Christmas?
& how do you all like him ? Tell me all you can think of
about everything & everybody!!
I cannot think of anything new to tell you this time of
course there are lots of things if I wrote would not
interest you much. There is a lady and a gentleman members
fo our church to start on a trip to Europe on Sunday. they
are Mr & Mrs Patton very wealthy people they intend
visiting England but I do not know if they shall go to
Ireland. they are to go to Italy & a number of places. I
was speaking to her yesterday at church. Margaret is still
in her last place, a week last Friday. she called Saturday
evg [evening?] but we were all out. I expect her in this
night as I believe she sent directions to have her letters
addressed here. I'm not very well pleased and will perhaps
tell you the reason some other time when I have more time
to write of it. I am hurried this morning as usual &
cannot afford the time but I have been much disappointed
with her. do not refer to it in your letter to me as
I did not tell Lytle he would simply be mad with her.
I must close now. I had no letter from Cloven Eden for two
weeks you will think I am always complaining but I still
think they have gone astray. With love to Dada Mamma, Tom
& all the rest of you in a "lump" I am your fond sister
Maggie
Alice's letter & mine crossed I guess!
