| Transcript | Petersburg Oct 8th 1860. My own dearest wife for some reason or other I have been sadly dissapointed [disapointed?] in not hearing from you more than a week, I hope it was from some fault in the mails & not received by sickness & that I will hear some time this week, but even if I do not get a letter now, it will be too late for you to get an answer & unless you state you do not intend starting before the 30th I will hardly send you another letter. I had one from Mary on Saturday written 18th Sept, it came by Derry & was not much later than your paper of the 13 which I got 9 days before she did not say she had had any later news of you than what you mentioned she said she expected to send you some money & you will have to draw on the kindness of some of your friends to lend you some more untill [until?] I can send, which will be as soon as I know the amount. I have very little news since Thursday when I sent my last the weather has been changeable since from wet to fine & warm to cool & today a most beautiful warm morning turned to thunderstorms & still warm [Hervey?] is still sick tho' [though?] improving slowly he has been very sick [Stom?] was sick all last week but is better & out today all your friends as far as I know are well, Mrs Munnis presented her husband with a son & heir on Saturday. John Hops sent me a note today asking me to engage Mr Miller to Marry him, both the parsons are leaving town & they were afraid they would have to get Munnis' brother-in-law to perform the ceremony for them but Miller will be back in time for the 16th. I hope dearest when you get this that you Tilly and Robert Henry will be ready to come by next steamer and that you will not feel the parting very keenly, it may not be long before we all go back if it be Gods will to so order it, & if otherwise we must submit, be sure & take good care of yourself dear keep yourself warm and dry I need not tell you to take care of Robert, I know you will do that even if you neglect yourself give my love to all your dear family, tell them to write often and now dearest this may be the last untill [until?] we meet, May God watch over & take care of you by the way is the prayer of your loving husband. |
