TranscriptI have been informed
that we 3 years ago took proposals in Writing for
Metchets farm in Derryleckagh got
from Jas [James?] Woods œ15 an acre Irish
for the Tenant right -
Now in all these cases & in many others
on the estate the right of
the tenant to dispose of his interest in
the land was recognized by your late father
& by Mr Rutherford the Agent of the Marquis of
Anglesey & I trust you will not now
seek to make a new arrangement
contrary to the regulations so long existing
on the Estate the effect of which
would be to lessen by at least the
one half the Interest of the Tenant
on the soil - My rent has been
always punctually paid according
to the revised Valuation of your uncle
Mr Sherry which 9/- an acre over
the rent of the adjoining farm in the Kilmorey
Estate. This farm Mr Rev M McAlister bought
from my father at œ20 an acre by auction &
from years ago sold the same farm at œ25
an acre & œ40 for the House - I have
[arranged?] for a sale of the farm on friday
next. I will undertake to provide
you with a suitable tenant in my
place & I trust you will not stand
in my way of making the most
I can of the place, I have had from
my Brother the offer of a farm of
80 acres near Chicago from which
he is about to retire & go into
business there where he has house
property - three of which were burned
in the late fire, & [two?] escaped
yr [your?] ever obt [obedient?] Servt [Servant?]
