Mr Thos [Thomas?] Brown

Dear Sir
I received your letter on
wednesday last & went over
to talk with Robert about
it and we concluded to
leave the thing with you to
settle for you can do it better
than either of us could do
you will be pleased to have
another interview with him
and you can say that how
that piece of land came to
be invested in me was this
original [originally?] the two farms
belonged to my grandfather
William Porter & the Ryan farm
was laft [left?] to James & the Dysart [Desert?]
to my Father well the [they?] got at
varience [variance?] with each other and
James closed that road
up on my Father so my
mother went to Acheson Thomson
the then Agent of Ryan under
Lord Killmorey Landlord of
Ryan and got a grant of 21
feet wide the whole lenth [length?] of the
piece from the road untill [until?] it
met the Dysart [Desert?] farm it was
laid off by the Balif [Bailiff?] Wm [William?]
McClelland to my Father &
his heirs for ever free of rent
cess or tithe proovrates [sic] or any
other charge now I claim to
be my Fathers Heir and if they
will not do something handsome
I will come over and build
a House on it and then
let me see who will dispossess
me for we have held it over
65 years without paying one

cent for it
The property is mine & the
improvements such as the gate
and fixing the well making
qickset [quickset?] fence are Roberts & so & so [sic] now
you do the best you can about
it I think Martha Anns 5-0
would be satisfactory but you
make the best of it and I
will send you a power of
Atorney [Attorney?] to make a deed of
it or whatever is nessary [necessary?] in
my name I will write to
Mr Thompson and tell him
that I have empowered you
to act for me and if you
can get what I cosider [consider?] a
fair value for it I will
do as above stated
I certainly would go over
myself but no one here will
hear of it especialy [especially?] my Wife
We are all well here at present
and I hope this will find you
all the same I am sorry sister
is not well for my own health
was not so good in 10 years as
at present I do not do anything
and I supose [suppose?] that makes some
difference I have got an orphat [orphan?] boy
that I got from Chicago last Aug
and he does all the work with
looking after & shewing what
to do whe [we?] have had a Very
mild winter with bad roads
for there is no stones nor gravel
Here to make roads but just the
earth thrown up in shape of
roads and when rain comes
no one can go anymore than
you could in a bog I will now
close hoping to hear from you
soon as concerns this affair
I remain your Brother
William Porter
