TranscriptN. Y. [New York?] Feby [February?] 3rd 1875

Dear Cousin Willie.
Willie's little girl
Julia died on Sunday evening
at Newport of pneumonia. It
is a terrible blow to poor Willie
& Mary as no parents could have
been more fond of a child than
they have always been of her
She had always been a strong
child but some three weeks ago
she took a heavy cold which
settled on her lungs & assumed
alarming symptoms. On Tuesday
she seemed so much better &
as the Doctor thought all danger
past, Willie returned home to us
& unfortunately as the wires
are not worked on Sunday to
the country, did not receive the
telegrams sending for him until
Monday morning, when all
was over. There is nothing
new here and little signs of a
revival in trade. The panic
is still bearing its fruits & capital
is distrustful of everything
which is not considered A.1
& money continues at 2% on call
Jimmy Cross told me last evening
that he had misinformed me about
the N. Y. [New York?] Cities, which Morton Bliss & Co.> [Company?] are selling at 106/2 cy [currency?].
Instead of 7% cy [currency?] bonds, they are 6% Gold -
There are no quotations in this
mornings [morning's?] paper but I will send
you word on Saturday what
cy [currency?] 7%s are worth.
Won't you please impress on
W. A. Y. the necessity of consigning
goods to us at the prices you
sell direct at. You have no
right to invoice at less than
than (sic) the lowest price you sell
at direct. The York St. [Street?], people

think, will have to pay the Govt. [Government?]
the full amount of the claim
and it is on this very ground, in
fact some invoices, as I have told
you, were seized because the cases
were changed to Jas. [James?] F. White [?] & Co. [Company?],
at more than duplicates were,
in their Consignments to their
agents here. Remember this
with the brown goods you are
going to send us & also with
the Hollands which are coming
all the time. I don't like this
present system, as I know
any clerk in the office could
give information which would
give you much trouble.
There is nothing new in the
Zinc Co's [Company's?] suits. They are
doing a good business in iron
& fairly in oxide & spelter.
Cousin Rowland wrote me
on 29th Ulto. The weather is
milder but he still suffers
from his Cough.
I wonder if Chaine has had
any disagreement with his
new agents Geo [George?] Hughes & Co. [Company?]? I
can't understand the auctioning
his linens at this time.
Please give my love to
Cousin Jane & all of yours.
Yr. [Your?] afft [affectionate?] cousin
Roland Redmond
Wm [William?] Young Esq.

P.S. Put this in the fire when
read.
