| Transcript | New York Augt [August?] 31st 77 [1877?] My dear Cousin Willie I have yours of the 18th and can answer some but not all of the numerous Conundrums you propound The State bonds of Missouri are now straight I believe. I have already written to Charleston about the value of the Southern securities as people here do not seem posted. I send you enclosed Copy of agreement between Cousin Rowland & the Kings regarding the charges for doing his business The $5000 N. Y. [New York?] City fixed the property of Dr. Saunders is in Cousin Rowlands name, so it must wait for the action of the executors here. The $13.500 ditto I can collect it being in the name of WR [Klon?] in trust. I think you are right in realizing this and I would do the same on the balance of your own when you can. In talking about the price down town this morning I found city stock far from being regarded as tip top. The Debt is too large and is increasing seemed the general opinion. Mr. Duer is trying to get a bid for $13500 and I will sell & remit as soon as possible as both gold & exchange are favorable. They will bring about 107/9 cy [currency?]. The zinc Power of atty [attorney?] I enclose. It is the only one I believe that I have from you. The zinc is doing some business & continue to supply the [Leleigh?] Co. [Company?] monthly with ore. The hearing of the accounting in the Taylor suit is set down for the 5th proxo [approximately?] The Memphis & Charleston bonds #PAGE 2 I have not yet found out about Duer says that he believes that the Troy & Boston has fallen through poor business due partly to the times & partly to competition with a new line - the Delaware & Hudson extension The Grand Valley R. R. [Railroad?] is one of the leases of the Michigan Central R.R. [Railroad?] & is guaranteed by it. The trouble is that the Michigan Central refused to pay the face of some due bonds of another of its leased lines, offering the owners some proposition much to the disadvantage of the latter. This they refused, went into the courts & have beaten the Railway in the two lower Courts and the case is now before the Supreme Court of the U.S. and in all probability will result in a victory for the bondholders. The shabby action of the corporation however has lowered the securities of its leased lines N.Y. [New York?] Central has indeed looked up and I hear people talk of how well it is doing under the receiver It is really very handsome of you acting as you have towards me and I cannot tell you how deeply I appreciate your generosity We are all quite well as I hope is the case with you all, and my "little" brother.
