[Messrs. Shaw & Joy?]
29 Rosemary Street,
Belfast
D1364/I/29a&b 1872

New York January 30, 1872.

Believe me my Dear Elizabeth I
feel most deeply for you. [None?] but
me who has had the experience, can
know of the desolation felt by the
survivor, when the Companion of his
or her married life, is taken away.
It will not be long before you & I
will be called upon to follow, & knowing
this our duty is to make such good
use of the time alloted to us, is not
to [dread?] the hour when it does
come, but must do our duty in this
world trust in the merits of our
Saviour for happiness in the next.
I was so glad to hear that my
kind friend did not suffer a long
& painful illness. What a lovely
character his was & how deservedly
& well he was beloved by every [one?]
who ever saw him. My children who
have been in Ireland speak of Uncle
Robert with as much affection as of their
nearest relatives. I suppose you will
hardly continue to live at Hillmount.
It will be too lonely for you. I
shall be glad to hear what you
have decided to do. We heard
Mary Bingley was dangerously ill;
the following mail, - that she was out
of danger, - nothing since. I hope that
she is again quite well. We are
in the City & all very well. My
children unite with me in expressions
of love & Condolence & I am always
My dear Elizabeth
Your afft. [Affectionate?] Cousin
William Redmond

Mrs Young
Hillmount
