| Transcript | ...from Bloomfield and he may run for County clerk for Essex [----?] and got it by a large majority it will [build?] him up for life his [---?] is five years at a salary of [--?] $18,000 to $20,000 per year or from 5,000œ to 5,500œ So you see he was lucky Joe is a smart good man and if he was not esteemed he could not have carried the election which you will see by the papers, I [have?] you all the news that I know of and I hope you will write me and let me know how you all are Your affectionate Brother James A. Reford. Joseph Reford, Son of James Reford, Belfast is in N. York. I saw his name in the paper last [June?] that he was put under arrest for infringement of the revenue laws and I had to see him and was out with me at Bloomfield from Saturday to [Monday?] nigt [night?] back he came to my Store and wanted 20 dollars I let him have it and in the course of a week he came and wanted more and begged to have I let him have 10 more in the course of a week he brought a note of 500 which he wanted me to endorse for him thus when I would not do it he wanted to go and come free it if I would go security for [---?] and [----?] the [----?]. He almost pestered the life out of me and when he found he could not make a fool of me he left in a [--?]. I wish when you write you would let me know about his family. I forgive him the 30 dollars to get [---?] of him you all know I was under no obligations to J. Reford. I must tell you I don't use glasses and I never had the tooth aake [ache?] and I was up [--?], old May the 9th 1872. |
