Transcript | Detroit, April 4th Dear Friend forgive me for not answering your letter sooner. I was waiting untill [until?] I would get a letter from the old country. It has not got here yet so I would have some news. I can not just say the exact time we will start but it will not be before the time I said I have a little business to transact which keeps me that I cant tell exact. But you and Miss Harrison will have to be in the week before getting our little trinkets ready and packing our trunks. How is Miss Harrison and your-self I suppose she is to [too?] busy to write Lizzie is very miserible [miserable?] just a billious attack no appetite I said if she was out [near?] you she would get the fresh air. We get no good fresh air here I was making her laugh and saying how probably when Miss Weir and I gets away travelling we might come back with two men, I suppose Miss Harrison and her would hardly give us a reception. They might be glad to get us off their hands Lizzie says what a time Miss Harrison and her will have and Gelian [Gillian?] getting us ready to go and going to the train with us. How nice it is commencing to look now. I wish I was out there when it gets a little greener. But we will have a good race over the hills at home And get a good cake of oat cake And good butter and a drink of buttermilk too. And a good meal of [crufles?] potatoes. I saw in Saturdays paper poor Mrs Shoultes that we went to see on Watkins St. is very insane and was locked up at the station untill [until?] she was taken to Pontiac she had been here before Poor creature I felt so sorry Lizzie.
