Care of the mosside [Moss-side?] post master

From: Philadelphia March 7th 1847

Dear friend I write a few lines according
to promise [---?] the short time I have been here
I have Little to say, but one thing I know
that jonathan was rong [wrong?] in going to Law
for the way that property runs here when
one dies and makes no will as Robert did
and has not Children the one third goes to
the wife and the rest to the Father if alive
John white says that when all is settled he
be Little for anybody jonh [John?] white says what
is Coming to you you will get it without any power
of Atourney [Attorney?] for without it you have a [----?]
Chance and if you send it sent it your brother william
Roberts Funeral Charge is 65 Dollars for a doctor
and 30 Dollars for a head stone and 300 Dollars
to William for rent and that is all that is
Due Except some small Bills a trifling afair [affair?]
that would make 490 Dollars in all
the [they?] have 590 Dollars in the Bank and
what was in the house was valued to 500 Dollars
there is a gold watch that was not valued
one that Robert bought for Reachel [Rachel?] and
told her to wear it while she would Live
and after death he alowed [allowed?] it for his Brother
William and when Reachel [Rachel?] died she Left
it to him also, what make me speak of
it is that John White and John McNab
Reachels Exacter [Executor?] talks of selling the watch
as the alow the [they allow they?] will not have Enough
to pay all the bills, it will Cost jonathon [Jonathan?]
60 Dollars for law that Comes out of his own
pocket and 60 more to widow neill that Comes
out of Roberts money
I have not seen jonathon [Jonathan?] as yet he will
not be in the City until Ester [Easter?] you may Let
my Father know that we are all wel [well?]
thanks be god for his kindness to us all
hugh Smith Come in to the City yesterday
morning and Brother Alexander and john
went with him to Bucks County he says he
Can get them both work out there I intend
to Comense [Commence?] work on omorrow and Eliza jane
has a situation with a lady and goes home
on tomorrow, Brother hugh and Family is well
and saws marble, Philadelphia port is full
of vessels loading for Derry Belfast and all
ports in Ireland with provisions and the [they?] have
lifted a great Deal of money to send
to the support of the poor of ireland
I Dad [add?] no more at preasand [present?] but
your friends with respect James Scott
Old widow will administered and that throws her
5 per Cent and that amounts to about 80 Dollars
