| Transcript | New Orleans Oct 29th 1906. Dear Dr. Smyth, I hope you will not think one presuming, but the deep interest and love I have always shown you and yours impels me to write to you. I hear from outside sources that you have some lands which are about to be sold for taxes. These lands have increased immensely in value by the fact that two railroads come into New Orleans through them. There seems to be a plot hatched by some lone company to buy them cheap and resell. With a little effort, but without delay, you can save them. The lowest estimated value (if properly handled) is something like $300,000. I hold this from good authority. I earnestly pray that you may realise this. I am deeply grieved that dear Arthe should be afflicted with Graves Desease [Disease?]. I had occasion a short time ago to see Dr Matas, he had heard of Arthe and inquired very kindly about her. He impressed upon me the urgent necessity of her taking a treatment by X Rays, for according to his experience and opinion X Rays is Arthe's only chance of salvation and cure. I have refrained from telling poor Nato anything about these lands as I thought it best to await developments. When I heard of these lands I felt as if God in his infinite mercy and justice, was returning to you, who in all occasions were so kind and generous to the poor.
