Dear mother I write you
these few lines to let you no [know?]
we are all well we have had
a very hard winter since we
came it has thawed and frezed [freezed?]
since we came we have had a
small shour [shower?] of hail they were
as large as hen eggs I saw
a small fire it was a hay
were house I saw the fenians
marching all were in silence
they had [2?] carrages [carriages?] horses and each eight
they had all their [greene?]
wash of course you know
I take the place very well
for so far it is a very
large place there is some
very nice buildings in it
Belfast would not make a patch
to it if it was set in the
middle of it
I had a letter wrote the
sunday after uncil [uncle?] Sam
wrote I did not like to send
it for I wrote about they [the?] thing
when uncil [uncle?] William got the
letter about them I thought
the [they?] were no use of it but I
rite [write?] you a full one now I will
get them to rite [write?] sooner to
Granma [grandmother?] you need not fret
for I am as well here as I
were at home or very neer [near?]
when I begin to think longe [long?]
I go out with my spark
as I am never took at a short
for one she has put the notion
of riting [writing?] till now she asked
me when I rote [wrote?] she told me
that I should a rote [wrote?] so I did
it You can tell uncil [uncle?] Nicholas
that if he comes out their is plenty
of widow women here [or?] I send him home
one as they are very useful in a cold night
