| Transcript | Lake Michigan July 27th 1878 Dear James I now write you these few lines to let you know that we are all in our usual good health Thank God for his goodness to us And I hope this will find you all in good health. Uncle Nicholas is able to go around but he does not feel good I think he is gone away for the good of his health by this time Aunt Isabella & family is well I was up their this last trip I was expecting a letter from Mrs Nesbitt I wrote to her and sent a photograph to her Aunt Isabella said she had not wrote to you but she was going to write this week Uncle William is well he is not married yet I am always at him to get married but he always put it off and goes on with another story. I am sailing with him all this summer for so far he says he will go to Ireland next spring with the Ada Medora he is always at me about going to spark but I dont go with the girls he wants me to go with so he cannot find out any of my sparking if the girls squel [squeals?] on me I drop her and goes with another, Uncle Sam and family was well the last I heard of them. I saw Aunt Nancy this spring she was well and her husband and family I gave one of my large photographs framed and all she was very well pleased with it I have got no more time to cribble [scribble?] you anymore for I have to go to the helm now. I send my kind love to you all and to Mrs Taylor of Plestry and to all my inquiring friends no more at present but remains your affectionate brother William Shanks |
