| Transcript | Healdsburg Dec 21, 1887 Dear Margaret Your letter arrived at hand on the 17th I am very glad to hear from you, the brooches your mother sent Martha and Margaret were broken into peices [pieces?] when the [they?] reached heare [here?] the box was not strong enough for them but they think as much of the pieces as in [if?] the [they?] were whole the [they?] thank her very much for them You said you wanted to know what work we were at Margaet [Margaret?] is working for $12 a mounth [month?] and Martha for $15 a mounth [month?] James is also working $1.50 Bob is working for $20 a mounth [month?] I am also working for $2 a day Lucinda and Samy is at home I pay Lucinda for keeping house for 3 dollars a mounth [month?] and go to school her and Samy Samys' work is to attend to the cow and milk Samy has part of the lot there are 2 acres in it is sewed in oats to [two?] weeks ago the rest is amoung [among?] us all the City tex [tax?] and County tex [tax?] is $20 on that is all the land we have it is [as?] a home for us all Charlotte writes to Mary she dont write or corrospond [correspond?] with her anymore I got a letter from my sister she lives quite lonely now she told me that she seefs [feels?] terriable [terrible?] over her Sister Marys death she writes quite regular to us now she is sending the children her picture and her familys [family?] also to #PAGE 2 us the weather is lovely hear [here?] in California we will have to eat our Christmas dinner all alone this Christmas with out [without?] my Children's mother the last time we were talking about Ireland and had a fine dinner I suppose there is heavy snow bak [back?] there now we had rain about tow [two?] weeks ago but now the weather is very pleasent [pleasant?]. My daughter Mary is well and so is little teddy backin [back in?] England in the last letter and so is her baby it is also quite well we are all well at present hoping when this letter arrives to you that it will find yous [you?] all well I hope your father is getting along well and your Mother also I have no more news to write to you at present Write Soon PS I want to now [know?] how is David John Taylor is getting along and Paddy [Hewn?] also tell them I was asking about them and afer [after?] a while I might take a race to see them John Sinclair Write Soon |
